Have a passion for political science, and want to combine that with basic business skills that will open doors to careers in the future? Plan to major in music at Tulane and would love to know how to turn that into a career in the music business? Envision your love for the arts setting you on the road to marketing a symphony or museum? Last fall, a new program, the School of Liberal Arts Management Minor (SLAMM), introduced non-business majors to management practices and principles through a liberal arts perspective. Students completing the minor will not only gain financial literacy but will also be able to explore the historical, social, political and ethical dimensions of business practices and institutions.
Through 18 credits, SLAMM combines required courses in accounting and microeconomics with elective classes on marketing, management, business ethics, as well as specially designed courses such as “Leadership” taught by Scott Cowen, Tulane President Emeritus and Distinguished University Professor, and “Philanthropy and Social Change,” in which students will have $50,000 to allocate to local worthy New Orleans non-profit organizations. Students can also select such unique classes Introduction to the Music Business, Digital Production for Nonprofits, Technical Writing, or a variety of foreign language classes designed for business in Spanish, French, and Arabic.
Want to learn more about this innovative and exciting program only at Tulane? You can read about it here or contact Shellond Chester, Program Administrator of SLAMM at Shellond@tulane.com.
