2020!

May 1st has come and gone, and that means that we have a pretty good grasp on what the class of 2020 will look like. And let me tell you... this was a big year for Tulane! We've got a few tidbits that I am excited to share with you. Here are some facts about the class, with the caveat that nothing is final till you guys actually arrive on campus this fall.

The class will be bigger thanks to an increased yield. While it's too soon to release a final number of how many students will be in the class of 2020 (we don't know anything for sure until move-in day!) I can tell you that this class will likely be around 80-100 students larger than the previous class. Before you fret, do not worry- we have plenty of space for all of our first-year students to live on campus and we're adjusting all resources on campus this summer to accommodate the larger class.

Tulane will not be admitting students from the waitlist this year. Some will look at this as a good thing, and of course others will not. While there are certainly students on the waitlist that we'd love to admit, we have a full class of students enrolling and therefore are unable to open up any additional spots.

The class is a bright one! Again, it's too early to release the final SAT average, but it is looking like it will be 20 points higher than last year's incoming class (on the 1600-point scale). Three of you have perfect 36s on the ACT, by the way.

The class will be diverse. In fact, nearly 1/4th of the incoming class are students of color, multi-racial, bi-racial or international. It's been a priority of Tulane's to bring in a diverse class each year, and personally I am excited to see this number grow consistently. Just over 41% of the incoming class is male, since I know you're probably curious about that, too.

The top states, in order, are:  New York (258 students) , Louisiana (227), California (204),  New Jersey (140), Massachusetts (135), and Illinois (135). We have students from 47 states and DC; only Iowa, Montana and North Dakota, are missing.

The class will be very international. Two years ago, there were 26 international freshman in the class; this year that number is 79! They will be coming from numerous foreign countries. Students from the following countries will arrive in New Orleans this August: Australia, Burma, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Panama, Russia, The Bahamas, Turkey, and the UK. Shout out to Leila, Paul and Laura on the international team for attracting such a fine group!

The Gold Star High School Award:
17 students from: New Trier High School (IL)
14: Ben Franklin High School (LA)
13: Jesuit High School (LA)
13: Staples HS (CT)
11: Millburn HS (NJ)
9: Evanston HS (IL)
9: Horace Greeley HS (NY)

This class is really remarkable all around and we are stoked to have them on campus in just a few months. I'll send an update as we get closer to move-in day with more details on the class.
