Lost in Translation

Holy smokes am I jetlagged! I have never been so tired at the most inopportune times and more awake at the least convenient times. A month in Asia will do that to you!

Let me backtrack a bit. Here at Tulane, I have two areas that I specifically recruit from: Southern California and Asia. Yes... Asia. One of Tulane's missions right now, and a big goal of new president Fitts', is to increase Tulane's global presence. We're successfully increasing our number of international students, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. As such, I just got back from a 8-city tour of Asia and met some truly fantastic students who I hope will apply to Tulane this fall. I was in Beijing, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen, Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City. There are so many great students in all of these schools I visited. I am excited to hopefully have some of them on campus soon!

I'm back in LA for two weeks of high school visits here, and looking forward to also meeting some great applicants here as well. Hope to see you at your school soon! In the meantime, enjoy a collection of my Instas from the Tour d'Asia. If you are reading this in Asia- it was great to meet you!

Here's me at Saigon South International School in Ho Chi Minh City.

One thing I did a lot in Asia was eat local food. One thing I also did was eat Pho in Vietnam around seventeen times.

I traveled with an awesome group of schools from around the USA.

Drinking coconut milk with my girl Kora from Wesleyan University.

Hong Kong is building this incredible harbor-front park. Should be cool when it's done!

If you went to Hong Kong International School, this is where you would play sports.

More eating. Here is am at a Hawker Center in Singapore. A must do if you ever happen to be there! Also, I love shrimp.

There are a lot of motor bikes in Ho Chi Minh City. Like, A LOT.

Sunset in HCMC, Vietnam.

The architecture in Asia is awesome. I call this one the Tetris building. It's in Hong Kong.

Got to meet up with some great alumni all over Asia on the trip. Here is am with Chris Quast, '12, who is in the Air Force stationed in Seoul. It was great catching up. Tulane truly has alumni all over the world!

Speaking of Seoul, here she is! I loved it.

Asia stuff.

Hong Kong

Meeting with more great alumni, this time with Lu Liang, '14, in her hometown of Shenzhen.

Would you believe this is a Korean boarding school? It was gorgeous.
It's called the Korean Minjok Leadership Academy. It was a favorite visit of mine of the trip.

Recruiting students, and whatnot.

More Hong Kong

Did you hear about all of the protesters in Hong Kong? Yes, so did we.
They were very clean! But made traffic a bit... challenging.

Mardi Gras in Hong Kong! I am home! Kind of.

Mmmmm  a little taste of America in Asia.

Check out the airport in Shenzhen. Without a doubt the most incredible airport I have ever been to. Shenzhen is also a massive city- bigger than New York City (and every other city in the USA, for that matter!)

Look! There we are! And here I am at the Ningbo Foreign Language School in China.

Shanghai bullet train station.

Shanghai skyline.

More awesome students.

With the team at Beijing National Day School, one of my favorite schools. Shout out to Claudia Shi, who I met at this very spot last year and is now a freshman loving Tulane!

Shanghai

Not sure what was going on here.

Shanghai sunrise!
