Bruff-tastic

Man do I love Bruff! We are getting ready to kick off Destination Tulane season, our program for admitted students where they spend a day on campus to get a real feel for if Tulane is a good for them. One part of Destination Tulane is a trip to Bruff Commons, our dining hall, for a lunch with faculty, current students, and administrators. Let's just say you don't have to twist my arm to get me to got to Bruff. I really enjoy eating in our dining hall—there are so many great options, and Tulane's dining staff always goes to great lengths to ensure that there is variety, freshness, and deliciousness in all of Bruff's food.

I can also tell you that in the years since I was a freshman at Tulane, Bruff has improved every single year. It was always great, but as you can see from the photos below, our students are really well fed at Bruff. Bruff is an all-you-can-eat style, and depending on your meal plan, you can swipe into Bruff an unlimited amount of times per day (although back in the day my fraternity brothers wanted to test this and as it turns out it's actually 99 times per day). There is also Bruff-to-Go, which allows you to grab Bruff food to go if you need to eat on the run.

Bruff is awesome because the chefs love to highlight the local New Orleans cuisine as much as possible. On Mondays, as is traditional everywhere in New Orleans, Bruff serves red beans and rice. Fridays are catfish and gumbo, complete with hush puppies. During crawfish season, Bruff will even have a boiled crawfish—a true New Orleans delicacy. Other than New Orleans cuisine, Bruff will highlight other cultural cuisines like during Indian Food Week. I'm telling y'all, this place is killer.

Enjoy the photo blog!

Ahh cereal. There are a number of things that are available at Bruff all day long—you can always get sandwiches and salads, and the always popular (and vast!) cereal bar.

Bruff chefs do a great job of ensuring that everyone's dietary needs are met. This is the vegan pantry which always has great vegan options as well as vegan breads and pastas. Bruff is also vegetarian friendly as well. There are Kosher options here in Bruff and also at Hillel's Kitchen in the Hillel Center for Jewish Life.

Healthy eating is paramount at Bruff. Fresh fruit is delivered 7 days a week. When I stopped in this week, I was excited to see we had pomegranates. There are also fresh local strawberries from Ponchatoula, LA. Kiwi days are my favorite.

Here is the salad bar. It's quite vast!

Bruff is just as much of a social spot as anywhere else on campus. Come for a 15 minute lunch, stay for two hours meeting new people and hanging out with old friends.

This is my go-to spot in Bruff every time I am there. I mean, who doesn't love a hummus bar?

The pasta and pizza areas are always popular with students. You can create your own pasta based on toppings, noodle type and sauce. There are usually 5-6 different kinds of fresh baked pizzas too. Next to this area is the grill which always has burgers and grilled cheese, as well as a number of different ever-changing daily specials.

WHAT! A KEG IN BRUFF? Relax Mom, it's a root beer keg. In celebration of the first day of spring this week, Bruff celebrated by providing root beer floats for our students. Man, they were good. I had two. My diet starts tomorrow.
