Looking for a Few Good Bloggers

Hi All! Graduation season is right around the corner here at Tulane. We are sad to be losing three of our best bloggers here at Tulane, Maya, Garrett and Laura. But in this loss comes great opportunity!

We are looking for two members of the incoming Tulane class of 2016 to be our next bloggers! It is a great deal of fun, and you get to share with the rest of the world what life is like here at Tulane and in the Big Easy. You'll need to blog a few times a month, nothing major, but keep it frequently updated. And you can start immediately! I want to see prom, graduation, summer orientation, saying goodbye to your hometowns, move-in day, etc.

Welcome Class of 2016!

May 1st has come and gone, which means college campuses across the country now have a good feel for who will be a part of their incoming class this fall. Things will obviously do a bit of fluctuating over the summer as students will opt to take gap years, possibly change schools as they get admitted to other schools off of their waitlists, or just make alternative plans. But for the most part, the way we look on May 1st is how things will be as we gear up at the end of August.

The size of the class is slightly larger than we anticipated. Despite admitting fewer students this year, we still ended up with a class size similar to last year's. This is due to an increase in Tulane's yield. The yield rate (which is the number of students who end up enrolling vs. the number of students who we admitted) is much higher this year than we have seen in the last five years, which is great news. This does unfortunately mean that we will not admit any students off of our waitlist.

Here is some other information that may interest you:

58%- The percentage of the class of 2016 who is female.

The top 6 states, in order: Louisiana, New York, California, Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts. Each of these states have over 100 students in the class; NY and LA have over 200 each, and California is very close to that 200 number as well.

The top 6 most popular majors, in order, are: Cell and Molecular Bio, Political Science/International Relations, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, and English. And don't worry, 60% of you all will change your major at least once!

For the class of 2016, there are students coming from 46 states. North and South Dakota, Alaska and Hawaii are the only state not represented. The university as a whole does have students from all 50 states.

Students will travel from far and wide to attend Tulane, including 16 foreign countries and Peurto Rico. International students hail from China, Canada, India, the UK, Thailand, Colombia, Korea, Australia, Azerbaijan, Finland, Ireland, Japan, Paraguay, Singapore, South Africa and Venezuela.

We've got some gold star high schools coming in this fall, the following will all be sending 8 or more students to Tulane, in order of most members of the class of 2016:
14: Jesuit HS (New Orleans)
13: Highland Park HS (IL)
12: Ben Franklin HS (New Orleans)
11: Glenbrook North HS (IL)
11: New Trier HS (IL)
9: Staples HS (CT)
8: Whitman HS (MD)
